Hairstyles to Do With Shoulder Length Hair Easy Hairstyles to Do on Yourself

Here's the thing: I'm ridiculously lazy when it comes to my hair. Like, if a style takes more than five or ten minutes, I'm calling it quits. So if something passes my Easy Hairstyle Test™, you know I'm not kidding around. And, lucky for you, I've combed through the depths of YouTube to find simple, easy-to-follow hairstyle tutorials that even the supremely lazy (aka me—and, let's be real, probably you) can handle in between the mad rush of snoozed alarms and "I'm on my way" texts. I'm talking about super-sleek buns, curly topknots, high ponytails, and so much more. Just do yourself a favor and keep scrolling for 25 easy hairstyles that are pretty enough to become your go-to look.

1. This easy protective hairstyle

This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

The key to recreating this easy protective hairstyle is all in the prep work. Before you start braiding, section off your (freshly washed and conditioned) hair and r ake a dollop of leave-in conditioner from root to tip, followed by a lightweight oil for extra hydration. Peep the quick tutorial to see how YouTuber Mia Nicole does it, and then make sure you have one of these top-rated leave-ins:

2. This easy flat-iron waves hairstyle

This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

K, I know you probably don't hear the words "flat-iron waves" and think "easy," but I promise this hairstyle is more simple than it sounds. All you do is grab a section of hair, gently flip your straightener away from your face, and slowly glide down the strand. When you unclamp your flat iron you'll have a cute lil curl (which, DW, you can comb out at the end for a more low-key vibe). A top-notch straightener is non-negotiable for this look, obvs—I'm personally a fan of the below.

3. This easy updo for curly hair

This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

This tutorial from All Things Olive features a handful of easy hairstyles for curls, but my personal favorite clocks in around the 1:34 mark. It's a cute, messy bun at the crown of the head with a few loose, face-framing pieces pulled out—and it'll take you, like, two mins max. Just set aside a thick scrunchie (I like the Slip Large Slipsilk Srunchies or the Kitsch Dinner Scrunchie) before you recreate this look.

4. This easy scarf hairstyle for long hair

This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Looking for an easy way to style your long-AF hair? Sit back and watch this tutorial from Gemary, which includes four ultra-pretty styles you can recreate with a silk scarf or bandana. I'm super into the headband-like style that starts at the 50-second mark—all you need to do is part your hair down the middle and carefully tie the scarf into a loose knot.

5. This easy passion twists hairstyle

This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Passion twists might not seem like the easiest of braided styles, but YouTuber Slim Reshae breaks it down suuuuper simply in this tutorial. As one commenter puts it: "This looks too easy." Just know you'll need to buy a couple supplies before you get started, including braiding hair, leave-in conditioner, gel, and edge control.

6. This quick and easy bun hairstyle

This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

This is one of my favorite easy hairstyles of all time—and with good reason. Even though it takes approximately five minutes (for real), it leaves you with the sleekest, Hailey Baldwin-worthy bun that lasts all day long. Make sure you have a smoothing brush to keep your hair flat (just trust me) and an anti-humidity spray to minimize fri zz, and then follow Sagonia Lazarof's easy steps.

7. This easy and romantic bun hairstyle

This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Sure, you could throw your hair into a super-messy low bun. Or, you could pretend like you have your sh*t together and whip up this quick masterpiece. First, blast your hair with texturizing spray (to add a bit of grit and hold), then separate your hair into three sections. Using bobby pins and a hair tie, you're going to secure the middle section into a ponytail, then wrap all three sections around the hair tie into a chic bun. (Alex, in the tutorial above, breaks it all down for you.)

8. This easy side-swept hairstyle for curls

This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

This hairstyle is a quick way to switch up your look if you're tired of rocking the same old twist-out. It's pretty simple—give yourself a deep left side part; then, on the left side of the part, take a small piece of hair, twist it, and bobby pin it in the back of your head. Hit your curls with an oil spray to add a reflective-like shine, and you're good to go.

9. This easy deep-waves hairstyle

This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Trust me, you don't have to have a full-time glam squad to get off-duty supermodel waves. All you need is hairspray (for hold) and a curling wand (for texture). Don't worry—the curls will look super tight, but run a brush through your hair and voila! Voluminous-ass waves.

10. This easy bobby-pin hairstyle

Okay, so this hairstyle is legit the best because you can do it on any hair type. And when it comes to hair clips and bobby pins, the style options are endless. You could part your hair in the middle and stack six to eight bobby pins on top of your left ear; or you could take two jeweled bobby pins and place one on each side of your part. Literally whatever your heart desires.

11. This easy topknot hairstyle

Sure, we've all leaned on a messy bun in a time crunch, but this easy topknot hairstyle is so much cooler (and just as easy). All you'll need is a brush, bobby pins, and a lightweight wax or gel to keep your flyaways nice and smooth. Trust me when I say you'll only need two or three minutes to perfect this look.

12. This easy wet-look hairstyle

Yup, even your lazy, lazy self can get Kim-at-the-Met hair, as long as you have the right products (and, fine, a team of professional stylists, but let's ignore that). Just spritz your dry hair with water—you want it to be damp but not soaking wet—then rake a golfball-size puff of alcohol-free mousse through your curls for definition and shine, lightly scrunching from the bottom up until the mousse is distributed. To prevent frizz, try to let your hair totally dry before rushing out the door (pro tip: put on your makeup, brush your teeth, and get dressed while you're waiting for it to set).

13. This easy half-up bun hairstyle

This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

The best part about this easy hairstyle is that you can do it on damp hair straight out of the shower if you don't have time to blow-dry it first. First, split your hair in half from ear to ear, then twist the upper half into a bun. Secure the bun with a few bobby pins, and let the rest of your hair hang loose. To get some extra volume, blast your roots with a texturizing spray before and after styling.

14. This easy ponytail for short hair

This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

If you've got a lob, you know that styling it can take a little extra time. That's where this quick, easy hairstyle for short hair comes into play—it's my favorite for greasy hair days. After blasting your roots with dry shampoo (see my favorites below), part your hair down the middle. On each side of your part, t wist a small section of hair toward the back of your head, then secure each twist with bobby pins. Then, scoop the rest of your hair into a ponytail and tie the whole thing off with an elastic.

15. This easy blowout hairstyle

This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Just because that silky-smooth blowout takes an hour at your salon doesn't mean you can't recreate it in 5 or 10 minutes at home (seriously). The key to mastering the perfect at-home blowout is using a great round brush, which pulls your hair taught to keep it smooth, shiny, and glossy. Oh, and a decent hairspray won't hurt, either.

16. This easy twisted bun hairstyle

This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

This sleek, twisted-bun hairstyle is so dang pretty, there's no way people will believe you put it together in 10 minutes flat. Make sure you have a gel wax on hand before starting this hairstyle, as it's key to keeping this style locked.

17. This easy ponytail hairstyle

This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Okay, you definitely already know how to throw your hair into a ponytail, but this easy look is the fluffier, prettier version of your go-to. If you've got thin, fine hair, you'll want to use a teasing comb and a mist of hairspray to create some volume before you secure your ponytail. Have longer hair? Make sure you pick up these high-pony essentials:

18. This easy beach waves hairstyle

This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Yeah, I wish my hair looked perfectly soft and wavy when I woke up, but that's legit never the case. This easy hairstyle gives you the illusion of undone, I woke-up-like-this texture, courtesy of dry shampoo and a curling wand. The messier, the better, so don't worry about keeping your technique super perfect with this one.

19. This easy curly puff hairstyle

This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Putting off wash day a liiiitle longer? Make sure you've got this quick hairstyle locked down. Before you gather your hair at the top of your head, pull out a few tendrils and lay your baby hairs with your favorite edge control.

20. This easy heatless waves hairstyle

This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

If you're looking for a get-up-and-go hairstyle, you need to try these heatless waves. Before going to bed, wrap your hair into two tight twists, then take them out in the morning. The result? Loose, undone waves. Keep in mind that it's easiest to create this style on damp hair, so if you shower before bed, this technique will be right in line with your sched.

21. This easy rope-braid hairstyle

This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

The best part about this easy hairstyle is that it looks way more complicated than it actually is. To help keep your braid from slipping or falling out, blast your hair all over with a generous amount of dry shampoo before you get started (yes, even if it's clean!) for extra grip and texture. Oh, and make sure you've got my braiding toolkit on hand:

22. This easy '90s flat-twist hairstyle

This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

You could totally just wear your hair down, or you could take it up a notch with this easy '90s-inspired hairstyle. You'll create three super-tight flat twists at your hairline (a rat-tail comb will help you divide each section, and a strong-hold gel will keep them in place), topped off with gold cuffs for a pretty look.

23. This easy wavy lob hairstyle

Yup, you can actually do beach waves on short hair—and it doesn't even require a dip in the ocean. Instead of using a curling iron (which, as anyone with short hair knows, is basically impossible), grab a wand instead. You'll be able to twirl even the shortest layers of your hair much easier this way.

24. This easy ribbon hairstyle

The easiest way to elevate a simple half-up hairstyle? Tying a pretty li'l bow at the base of your ponytail. Whether you're working with three-day old hair or you just got out of the shower, you'll be able to execute this style without spending a ton of time in front of the mirror.

25. This easy braided-updo hairstyle

This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Yup, this twisted-and-braided updo looks like it requires a hell of a lot of time, but you'll be able to perfect it in 10 minutes or less (or, fine, if you're not exactly a master braider, it might take you a bit longer). Make things easier on yourself (and your hair!) by spritzing on a leave-in conditioner to keep your hair from drying out while in this protective style.
